May 25, 2026.
Mahalo nui loa to every single person who took part in Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi 2026.
Whether you wrote a remembrance on the beach or submitted one online, whether you set afloat your lantern to join the 6,000 other lanterns in the water or sent your sincere prayers for peace as you joined others on the livestream from all over the world, whether you sat on the beach watching the sun set on the lanterns or sat in the comfort of home watching the KHON TV broadcast. For one moment, we all shared a connection as we took part in today’s ceremony.
Immense gratitude to all the volunteers, crew, performers and supporters from every corner of the globe for everything you do to create this ceremony of remembrance and connection. And now the work continues as we take down the stage, clean all the lanterns (yes, we retrieve and store them for next year), and get started on planning next year’s ceremony.
See you all for Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi 2027. A hui hou kākou.
