The Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawai‘i website has a fresh new look in preparation for this year’s 2026 ceremony!

We’ve redesigned the pages and updated photos and visuals to help website visitors get a better sense for what the ceremony is all about. Our goal was to help in-person participants know what to expect as well at the event, and helps remote participants feel that they can be part of the ceremony.

Additionally, we’ve restructured the site to help everyone find the information they need. Latest information will always be in the News section, so that you can stay up to date on everything you need to know about this year’s ceremony. We’ve consolidated the details for how participate into two pages. The Attend in person page has all the information for the event at Ala Moana Beach, including parking, accessibility, and requesting an Individual Lantern. The Participate from Anywhere page has details for those who wish to take part online or who cannot be at, or stay at, the beach for the entire ceremony.

Finally, we’ve redone the look of the View Submitted Remembrances page, including using recorded video from actual ceremonies past and the images of actual lantern paper designs as the background to display your remembrances. We hope that this will help everyone feel even more that they are participating in the ceremony together, regardless of whether they are at Ala Moana Beach, or anywhere in the world. As always, all remembrances submitted online by midnight, the night before the event, will be included on the Collective Remembrance Lanterns floated from canoes during the ceremony itself. Those received by April 30 will be handwritten onto a lantern by volunteers. Learn more at the Submit an Online Remembrance page.

We hope the new website will make it easier and more meaningful for all to participate in the Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawai‘i ceremony.
